Former coach of the Super Eagles aspires to be Mourinho’s assistant at Real Madrid

Former Nigeria senior national team coach José Peseiro is among the assistant options available to José Mourinho, who is expected to be named the new coach of Real Madrid, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Mourinho’s appointment is expected to become official after Real Madrid’s presidential elections, where current president Florentino Pérez is expected to be re-elected.

He has already given his backing to the Portuguese’s signing, and Peseiro, who worked with Mourinho during his previous spell at the club, is among five names touted as potential Mourinho assistants.

Currently in charge of Al-Ula FC in Saudi Arabia’s second division, he is one of Mourinho’s oldest allies and will have no problem leaving his current position at Real Madrid if the opportunity arises.

In the application that got him the job on the Nigerian senior team, he named Mourinho as one of his referees and that helped him get the job. He led Nigeria to a second-place finish at the African Cup of Nations two years ago but left after his contract expired.
