This information was provided by its monitors in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT). cursed increased Israeli attacks as families prepare to celebrate Eid al-Adha.
They said 12 Palestinians were killed in three airstrikes on May 26, while a teenage girl died from injuries she suffered in an attack the previous day that also killed a woman and a young girl, according to initial reports.
An airstrike killed four men at a camp in Central Gaza, reportedly after they resisted an attempted search of their home by an armed gang allegedly backed by the Israeli military. Two other men were killed when the attack hit a car in Khan Younis.
A third airstrike, on an apartment in Gaza City, killed a newly appointed Hamas Al Qassam Brigades commander, his wife and three children, as well as a woman passing by.
Ten people suspected of being affiliated with the Al Qassam Brigades were reported killed in an attack on May 27.
Death, displacement and deprivation
The office took note of that Israeli forces have killed 922 Palestinians in attacks since the ceasefire announcement in Octoberbringing the total death toll since the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023 to nearly 73,000according to local authorities.
At least 32 children and eight women have been killed in attacks since the ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Palestinians still lack shelter, essential medicine, food and other necessities as the blockade on Gaza continues, he said.
Almost the entire population is still displaced and concentrated “in a increasingly narrow land”, with several transfer orders issued in recent days.
Horrifying conditions, ‘unthinkable’ attacks
Human rights investigators also discussed Thursday’s announcement by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu directing Israeli troops to expand their deployment to cover 70 percent of Gaza.
They say the continued shrinking of the area available to civilians raises questions about access to humanitarian aid and safety.
Ajith Sunghay, head of the human rights office at OPT, said his concerns over war crimes committed in Gaza had not stopped.
“It is hard enough to live life in chronic displacement in the ruins of Gaza, under blockade, and after Israeli attacks destroyed every important system: health services, education, food production, law enforcement and civil order,” he said.
“Continuing military attacks against people living in these conditions is unthinkable.”
Air strikes near aid facilities
Separately, the UN aid coordination office Ocha said that airstrikes on Thursday hit residential areas near five humanitarian facilities in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza. No fatalities were reported.
The development follows orders from the Israeli military to shelter in place shortly before the attack.
OCHA continues to call for the opening of more crossings into Gaza for humanitarian aid and commercial supplies as only one, Kerem Shalom, remains operational.
Humanitarian partners provided mental health and psychosocial support, as well as other protection, to more than 10,000 people between May 11-17.
These services – including recreational activities, arts and drama sessions, counseling and parenting support – are provided in shelters, camps, schools and refugee sites.
“Partners reiterate that to continue these services – especially for children and young people – fuel, safe spaces, staff and other basic resources are needed,” OCHA said.
