The Super Eagles crush Jamaica 3–0 to retain their Unity Cup crown and extend their dominance

The Super Eagles underlined their dominance on the international friendly circuit on Saturday night with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over the Jamaica national football team to retain their Unity Cup title at London’s Valley Stadium.

The emphatic victory ensured Nigeria successfully defended the trophy in style, replicating last season’s triumph and further cementing their status as the most successful team in the competition’s history with a fourth title since inception.

Midfielder Alhassan Yusuf emerged as the best player of the night, scoring twice and recording his first goals in 10 appearances for his country, while captain Terem Moffi also got on the scoresheet in a dominant performance that left the Caribbean side chasing the shadow.

Nigeria wasted no time in asserting their authority, taking the lead in the third minute after Yusuf pounced on a defensive error from the Jamaican backline. The midfielder took advantage of the confusion between defender and goalkeeper, scoring after the initial shot was saved again in danger.

Although Jamaica, who are preparing for their World Cup fixtures, attempted to stabilize their game, they struggled to contain Nigeria’s pace and pressing, with the African team controlling possession and dictating the pace for the majority of the match.

The turning point that effectively seals the match comes in the 58th minute, when skipper Moffi rises higher and heads a precise cross from Femi Azeez, doubling Nigeria’s lead and putting to rest any hopes of a Jamaican comeback.

Yusuf then put the result beyond doubt in injury time with a fine solo shot, capping a man-of-the-match performance and highlighting the Nigerian team’s growing depth of options ahead of their upcoming international matches.

The victory also extended Nigeria’s impressive run against Jamaica, with the Super Eagles now unbeaten in six matches, including three regular-time victories.
