Appointment with Edo NUJ chair bags

Governor Okpebholo of Edo State on Monday approved the redeployment of the Chief Executive Officer of Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), Suleiman Aledeh, to the Edo State Guidance Agency as its pioneer Director General.

‎The redistribution, which takes effect immediately, is contained in a statement issued by the secretary to the state government, Umar Musa Ikhilor.

‎Government also announced the appointment of the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Councillor, Dr. Festus Alenkhe, as the Interim Chief Executive Officer of EBS pending the appointment of a substantive Chief Executive Officer for the state-owned broadcaster.

‎According to the statement, Aledeh’s reassignment reflects confidence in his professional competence and ability to lead the Guidance Agency’s mandate, particularly in the areas of civic engagement, public communication and values reorientation.

‎The statement further highlights that Alenkhe’s appointment underlines the administration’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted operations at EBS, adding that he is expected to uphold the station’s professional broadcasting standards and efficient service delivery.

‎However, Blueprint.ng concluded that Aledeh’s redeployment was linked to alleged growing dissatisfaction within government circles with the station’s handling of some official business.

‎A source who requested anonymity, said the concerns emerged on May 22, 2026, during an important visit to the Oba of Benin by Edo South leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During the visit, Governor Okpebholo preferred aspiring Senator, Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama showed a document he described as his scorecard in the APC senatorial primary elections.

According to the source, the event was not broadcast by EBS on the day it was held but was broadcast only the following day, a development that reportedly displeased some government officials who felt that the broadcaster had not given adequate prominence to activities considered important to the administration.

‎The sources also said that the incident aggravated existing complaints that some government agencies had reportedly expressed. concerns about the station’s coverage policy, including claims that agencies were sometimes required to pay for airtime before receiving media coverage.
