Security Council LIVE: Escalating Russian attacks and threats prompt emergency meeting on Ukraine

UN Security Council was meeting in an emergency session on Ukraine, and Secretary-General António Guterres told ambassadors following what Kyiv described as the most devastating attack on its capital to date, that “now is the time for peace.” In the early hours of May 23-24, Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack on several cities in Ukraine. Moscow has since threatened further sustained attacks. Sharp divisions among Council members are expected, with European countries demanding an immediate ceasefire, while Russia insists that its attacks target only military infrastructure.
