Tension has escalated in Ogun State political circles following allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifo Local Government stormed the residence of elder statesman, Chief Joju Fadairo, in an alleged attempt to force him to withdraw his support to PDP chief, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the PDP accused the “apex leadership” of the APC in Ifo of mounting pressure on the respected community leader following his open statement of support for Adebutu during a visit to his residence on Monday, June 8, 2026.
According to the party, the alleged visit by APC leaders on Tuesday was aimed at forcing the elder statesman to publicly retract his remarks, a move described as “political intimidation and desperation ahead of the 2027 general elections”.
The PDP said despite constant questioning and pressure to clarify or deny its previous position, Chief Fadairo stood his ground, repeatedly affirming his support in what it described as a calm but firm response.
The statement quoted him as saying, “Take it as you saw it,” before the visitors eventually left.
Describing the development as “a shameful display of political panic”, the PDP said the ruling party in the state was troubled by the growing defections and endorsements of influential figures.
He also said the APC was increasingly losing “credible and progressive-minded members” and warned that further political realignments were imminent.
“The APC should stop chasing shadows and allow Baba Fadairo to exercise his democratic right. The party should instead address internal decay and dissatisfaction within its ranks,” the statement added.
The PDP also said the APC was uncomfortable with what it described as the growing acceptance of Adebutu in the political and community structures of the state.
However, the Ogun State APC is yet to officially respond to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
