Gunmen kidnapped Ondo village chief, shot his wife

Unidentified gunmen have attacked the residence of the Ode Oriya traditional ruler in Owo Local Government Area of ​​Ondo State, Adeniyi Adelana, and carried him away.

Heavily armed men numbering around six, reportedly stormed the community at around 8.30pm on Saturday, and headed towards his home.

They shot the village head’s wife before taking her husband away into the forest.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the development, and said that the woman is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

According to a police spokesperson, officers were quickly deployed to the scene, with tactical teams deployed to comb the forest as well as other parts of the surrounding community to rescue victims.

He said, “A comprehensive search and rescue operation was immediately launched, with security officers combing the surrounding jungle, bush tracks and suspected escape routes in a determined effort to trace the movements of the kidnappers, secure the victim’s release and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Command remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that the victim can be safely reunited with his family while all those involved face the full extent of the law.

“The Ondo State Police Command urges the public to remain calm and continue their lawful activities without fear. Citizens are encouraged to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information that can assist the ongoing operations.”
