The drama surrounding actress Judy Austin’s union with fellow Nollywood star Yul Edochie, has become even messier, as the actress’ ex-husband alleged that the couple was dating under his roof long before their affair became public knowledge.
Her ex-husband, Emmanuel Obasi, in a recent interview on The Honest Bunch podcast, alleged that her marriage with Austin ended because of Yul.
Obasi had accused Austin of leaving him and taking his two children to marry Yul. He pleaded with the public to help find them and said he regretted paying for his university education.
He further accused Yul and Austin of their relationship starting long before it became public knowledge in 2022.
Speaking in a recent interview, Obasi noted, “Every time we watched television and Yul Edochie came on, Judy Austin would no longer concentrate. She would say to me, ‘I love this man’, but she wouldn’t say it like that. She would praise him, or, after watching him, she would tell me that his voice sounded like her uncle, Chinedu. That’s why she loved him.
“Chinedu is the last child of his father’s parents. So I consider him that way. Sometimes I ask myself what offense a man can commit against another man in this world. This is not a made-up story. I have four pieces of evidence to show that they dated under the same roof as me.”
Obasi also revealed that after praising Yul on screen, Austin returned home one day and told him that he had met the actor.
According to him, Austin not only conveyed the news of his meeting with Yul, but also conveyed the offer that Yul made to him.

“One day Judy came home from school and asked me if I knew Yul. I said no, because I don’t watch Nigerian films, I only watch foreign films. She told me that Yul was the son of actor Pete Edochie. I answered that I knew Pete Edochie. She told me that she met his son, Yul, and Yul told her that he was wasting his time at my house, and asked why a beautiful woman like her would marry me.
“He told me a lot of things Yul said to him. He said Yul told him that his type should move with the likes of Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde and others. I didn’t agree with him because it wasn’t our deal. The second thing he told me was that Yul had promised to be a friend of our family so he could help me financially. I said no, I don’t need that help”, added Obasi.
Responding to Obasi’s allegations, Austin said in a video posted on her Instagram on Tuesday that she never had any relationship with Yul during her marriage to her ex-husband.
He said it was surprising that Obasi would fabricate lies against him and Yul, as the two had done nothing wrong.
“I met Yul Edochie three years after my marriage ended. I met Yul Edochie on a film set in 2016 for the first time, and up until then, I had no interest, even in acting. In 2013, it was Sylvester Madu who encouraged me to consider acting. He is still alive to prove this. Any intelligent and educated person who listens to this podcast will see and hear how he contradicts himself in everything he says.
“That’s because everything he said was a lie. He said he didn’t know where his children were, so why did he still ask Yul Edochie to let them go when he didn’t know if they were with him? You called him because when you say his name, people will listen, because with your own name, no one listens.”
The actress announced that she would sue Obasi, and alleged that someone had paid her to come and destroy his name, but said she could not.
“You didn’t give my name, and you won’t be able to destroy it. He has been lying since 2022, if you watch the previous videos you will see this, but all this will stop, because the court is where you have to defend everything you say without a doubt.
“If you accuse something, you have to defend it. All the lies you told against me and my family, you will defend in court.”
This newspaper reported that in 2022, Yul caused controversy when he announced that Austin was his second wife amidst a marriage crisis with his first wife, May.
