Charly Boy gives tips for lasting marriage after 48 years with one wife

Eccentric Nigerian entertainer, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has given tips on how to keep a marriage lasting.

Charly Boy, reflecting on his 48 years of marriage, said spending decades with the same partner could become “boring”.

Speaking during an interview on Yanga FM, the musician compared his long marriage to eating the same food over and over again for years.

“I have been married to a woman for 48 years. It’s very boring. Imagine eating the same egusi for years, it’s boring now,”

Despite making humorous comments, Charly Boy explained that the success of a lasting marriage lies in constant management, understanding and the ability to resolve disputes.

According to him, he and his wife still often fight after almost five decades together, but they always find a way to resolve their differences.

The entertainer said arguments should not be seen as a sign of failure in a relationship, as conflict is common in most marriages.

“All marriages are management matters, including mine. My wife and I are like Tom and Jerry. We fight every day and we will continue to fight and work it out.

“There’s not a day we don’t fight. There’s not a day we don’t resolve arguments. We go to resolve their arguments, Because, oyinbo people say devil, you know better than angels, you don’t know,” he said.

Reflecting on the longevity of their union, he believes that accepting a partner’s imperfections is one of the keys to maintaining a marriage over the years.
