Team Nigeria returns from Dakar as Okowa salutes the outstanding performances of the athletes

The Nigeria team arrived in Lagos from Dakar, Senegal following an impressive outing at the CAA Region 2 U-18/U-20 Athletics Championships.

The contingent landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at around 11pm, led by the President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Chief Tonobok Okowa.

Chief Okowa, who attended the championships in the dual capacity of President of CAA Region II and President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, once again commended the young athletes for their outstanding performances and discipline throughout the competition.

Nigeria emerged as overall champions after amassing an impressive haul of 15 gold, 7 silver and 1 bronze medals, underlining the country’s dominance in the regional championship.

Okowa described the athletes’ achievements as a testament to their hard work, discipline and determination, expressing confidence that the country’s emerging talents have a bright future and will continue to make Nigeria proud on the continental and global stage.

“We made a great statement in Dakar that Nigeria is rich in talent. The future of athletics in Nigeria is bright. So, we have put in place a system to nurture them and monitor their transition to the elite championship. Once again, I congratulate them for being Nigeria’s worthy ambassadors in Dakar,” Okowa said.
