The management and staff of the Coal City Blazers Basketball Club have expressed delight at the outstanding performances of the club’s players, Joshua Ogbonna and Timothy Onyekachi, who are representing Nigeria at the ongoing FIBA ​​AfroBasket U-18 Qualifiers in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The duo, who played for Coal City Blazers during the club’s first season in the Nigeria Basketball Premier League, continued to impress on the continental scene, with Joshua Ogbonna winning the Man of the Match award in one of Nigeria’s matches.

The club’s manager, Coach Chiedozi Nwoye, commended the players for their commitment and quality, saying their performances demonstrated that they possess the talent and determination to succeed at the highest level of the game.

Co-owner of the club and South East representative on the board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Chief Ugo Udezue, described the players’ achievements as a proud moment for the club and the South East region.

Udezue said the players’ success reflects the club’s commitment to youth development, adding that their achievements have strengthened the club’s resolve to invest more in grassroots basketball across the region.

The Coal City Blazers made history as the first basketball club from southeastern Nigeria to compete in the Atlantic Conference of the Nigeria Basketball Premier League, finishing sixth in its debut season.

The club believes that the performances of Joshua Ogbonna and Timothy Onyekachi at the FIBA ​​AfroBasket U-18 Qualifiers have further highlighted the immense potential of basketball in the South East and will inspire more young athletes to pursue excellence by representing Nigeria with pride.
