Two shot dead in Osun; Adeleke reacts

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed that two persons have been killed in separate violent clashes in Egbatedo and Owode-Igbona areas of Osogbo.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on Thursday, said the incidents occurred on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Ojelabi said one person died in the clash in Egbatedo, while four others were injured and are responding to treatment.

He added that two suspects linked to the incident had been arrested and had provided useful information on other people involved.

The police spokesperson also said that one person was also killed in the Owode-Igbona clash, with no arrests having been made so far.

He, however, said that one pistol, three rounds of ammunition and five cartridges were recovered from the scene.

Reacting, Governor Ademola Adeleke condemned the incidents and called for calm, urging security agencies to enforce the law and arrest those responsible.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor denied suggestions that the state government was involved.

“We have received with concern reports of alleged cult-related killings in Osogbo and call on security agencies to enforce the law and prosecute the perpetrators.

“The murders and resulting violence are condemnable.

“I urge security agencies to investigate and arrest those involved in this dastardly act,” the governor said.
