Ronaldo leaves Portugal camp ahead of Denmark clash

Cristiano Ronaldo has announced that he is officially leaving Portugal’s training camp in the middle of the international break.

He has stated that he will “tell the truth” about why he left amid reported frustration over his lack of minutes.

Ronaldo was an unused substitute for Portugal in their 2-1 victory over Norway on Sunday, the first time in 18 years that he did not play a single minute despite being in the team.

The football icon was said to be unhappy with that, leading to a crisis meeting being planned with coach Jorge Jesus and the Portuguese Football Federation.

Jesús has since spoken out to deny those rumors, but hours later, Ronaldo released the explosive statement that he had left.

“After the national team’s press conference, and after a conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have decided to leave the national team’s concentration,” he wrote on Instagram.

“In time I will tell all Portuguese people the truth about the reasons that motivated me to leave the national team, to which I always dedicated myself.

“Now is the time to wish good luck to Portugal and to all my teammates, without exception.”

Portugal still has two games left on its international break schedule, the first of which will arrive on Thursday.

They will face Denmark in their third Nations League clash, and on Sunday they will face Norway.

The Selecao have won both of their games in the competition so far, and Ronaldo had a goal disallowed against Wales.

He played 67 minutes in a 1-0 win over Craig Bellamy’s team before not playing against Norway.
