The President of the Imo State Athletics Association, Founder and Funder of the Akanchawa Educational Foundation and Chairman/CEO of the KEO Group, Chief Chris Onwuzurike, has described the appointment of the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, as one of the greatest developments in the history of Nigerian sports.

Speaking exclusively to FAKS MEDIA from his base in the United States of America, Chief Onwuzurike commended the leadership style of the NSC Director General, saying his administration has restored confidence, unity and professionalism in the nation’s sports sector.

According to him, the Hon. Olopade has demonstrated an exceptional understanding of sports governance, drawing on his extensive experience as a former commissioner for sport.

“The best thing that has happened to Nigerian sports in recent years is the emergence of Hon. Bukola Olopade as the Director General of the National Sports Commission. His leadership style has brought something special to Nigerian sports. He understands governance, he understands administration and most importantly, he understands the needs of athletes,” Onwuzurike said.

He noted that the climate of peace currently enjoyed by several sports federations is not a coincidence but is the result of proactive and inclusive leadership.

“Where do I start? Look at the level of peace between federations, the improved well-being of athletes and coaches, and the renewed trust that stakeholders now have in the system. These results are the product of deliberate leadership.”

Chief Onwuzurike further explained that since Olopade had previously served as Sports Commissioner, he was already familiar with the daily challenges faced by athletes, coaches and sports administrators.

“As a former Sports Commissioner, Bukola Olopade always understood the plight of our athletes. Therefore, what he is doing today as Director General is not surprising. He came into office with experience, compassion and a clear vision of what Nigerian sports should become.”

The Imo State Athletics Association President also applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a courageous and well-informed decision in appointing Olopade as the Director-General of the National Sports Commission.

“I must commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for putting the peg in the round hole. The appointment of Bukola Olopade has yielded extraordinary results. In less than four years, Nigerian sport has witnessed remarkable progress in administration, athlete welfare, grassroots development and international competitiveness.”

Onwuzurike expressed optimism that with the sustained support of the Federal Government and continued collaboration among stakeholders, Nigerian sports will achieve even greater success on the continental and global stage.

He urged administrators, athletes, coaches and sports fans to continue to support the reforms introduced by the National Sports Commission, stressing that unity and continuity would be key to sustaining the momentum already achieved.

Chief Onwuzurike concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the development of athletics in Imo State and Nigeria, pledging to continue to support initiatives that will help discover and nurture young talent capable of winning laurels for the country.
