The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Kaduna State for the 2027 elections, Lawyer Mohammed Sani Abbas, has challenged Governor Uba Sani and other governorship candidates to a public debate ahead of the elections.
Abbas, who spoke shortly after his candidacy for the party’s governorship, said he was ready to engage his opponents in a debate in any venue, including the House, the market or other public places.
“I challenge you to a debate for us with all the candidates. We are ready today, here, tomorrow, in the House, in the marketplace, wherever we are ready, including the current governor,” he said.
He said the debate will provide an opportunity for candidates to present their agendas and will allow Kaduna voters to weigh the alternatives before them.
Abbas said his campaign would focus on poverty, good governance and the economic hardships Nigerians face, arguing that the level of poverty in the country requires urgent attention.
According to him, Nigeria’s economic challenges are largely a result of mismanagement, corruption and poor governance, stressing that Kaduna needed leadership capable of addressing the concerns of its people.
“Nigerians are enduring terrible hardships under this administration,” he added.
The NDC candidate said his campaign will involve widespread grassroots mobilisation, including door-to-door engagements in all areas of state and local government.
He said the party will ask voters a simple question: “Are you better off today than you were four years ago?” adding that the answer would shape the party’s election message.
Abbas also expressed confidence in the NDC ticket, saying he and his running mate, Joktan Suleiman Sabo, offered Kaduna voters a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also called on party members who contested the governorship primaries with him to join his campaign, saying unity was necessary to achieve victory.
Regarding former senatorial aspirant Danjuma La’ah, Abbas said he had contacted him and invited him to work with the party, while acknowledging his contribution to the NDC.
Abbas also said the party is open to receiving defectors from other political parties, describing the NDC as a credible alternative in Kaduna State.
He said the party will take its campaign to communities across the state and engage directly with voters about their concerns and expectations ahead of the 2027 election.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairman of Kaduna State NDC Governorship, Jokthan Sabo Suleiman, has pledged to galvanize Southern Kaduna support to ensure the party’s victory in the 2027 elections.
Suleiman, who hails from Jaba Local Government Area (LGA), said her presence on the ticket will bring support from the people of Southern Kaduna, describing her as industrious and very intelligent.
He expressed confidence that the NDC can defeat the current president.
The NDC running mate has dismissed the Jaba PDP candidate, saying the party was not one to align with.
He noted that he was a founding member of the APC but left due to disappointment with the party’s performance after defeating the PDP.
Suleiman, an investment and retail banker in his 50s, said he would bring his youth and professional experience to galvanize professionals in southern Kaduna and the state to help the party achieve victory.
He has identified poverty reduction as his first priority if elected, promising to empower women and young people to lead their families.
According to him, studies have shown that supporting women and youth would improve the economy and reduce social vices.
