Enrique explains why PSG let Barcola go

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has clarified why Bradley Barcola was sold to Premier League giants Anfield in a deal worth £123million.

Enrique explained that Barcola, who made 49 appearances in all competitions last season (scoring 13 goals and seven assists) was eager for a more central role in the starting eleven after significantly improving his profile since joining PSG from Lyon.

Speaking about the transfer, Enrique said (via Yahoo Sports): “For me, his case is a little different because he has grown a lot in Paris since his arrival from Lyon and, in addition, he has improved the team a lot with his performance.

“His wish was to play a bigger role in the team, something I couldn’t guarantee. In the end, I think everyone benefits from this situation. I accept that and wish him all the best. We are very happy to start the season with this team.”

Enrique delved into the player’s mentality before his transfer: “He wanted to leave because he wanted more minutes and a greater role in the team. And that is something that I cannot guarantee to any player, because you have to earn it in training and in games.”

“He has been very important and is a player very loved by his teammates. It is difficult for everyone because Bradley is an incredible person. I have only spoken positively about him. In the future it will be normal for players who have been very important for the team to leave, but that is life, we have to accept it.”
