Yayi Physically Disabled Support Group distances itself from alleged anti-party activities

Special Persons advocacy group Yayi for Governor, operating under the Caucus 7202 coalition in Ogun State, has disassociated itself from alleged anti-party activities involving some individuals within the disabled community.

The group, which comprises persons with disabilities who support the All Progressives Congress, said they remain firmly committed to the APC, the governorship ambition of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, and the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement released on Thursday and signed by its state coordinator, Alfa Kamal Olatunji Lawal, and other officials, the group said it was forced to clarify its position following what it described as activities that could create the impression of being involved in anti-party engagements.

The group alleged that some persons who attended an APC program in Abeokuta on August 13, 2026, subsequently invited a Peoples Democratic Party senatorial candidate at Fati Lamin Abubakar Centre, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, for a political interaction.

He also alleged that members of the same circle had had relationships with individuals associated with other political parties.

The advocacy group, however, stressed that it respected the constitutional rights of individuals to make their own political choices, but insisted that the activities were neither authorized nor endorsed by it.

It states: “Such activities were not carried out on behalf of, authorized, approved by or associated with the Yayi for Governor Special People Support Group.”

The group therefore urged members of the public and political stakeholders not to attribute individuals’ activities to its facility without proper authorization.

“Our position is clear and unequivocal: Yayi for Governor Special People Support Group is an APC-aligned support group and our loyalty remains firmly with the APC and its leadership,” he said.

The group said its political alignment is also consistent with the leadership of the APC Special Constituency, under the APC National Special Leader, Tolu Bankole, and the Ogun State APC Special Leader, Fatai Ajibgbarе.

The group said it had begun grassroots mobilization in the 20 local government areas of Ogun State as part of efforts to bolster the electoral fortunes of the APC.

It said its members are reaching out to people with disabilities, their families, friends, colleagues and other residents in their communities.

According to the group, its members also actively participated in the recently concluded voter registration exercise, encouraging eligible citizens to register ahead of the upcoming elections.

He said the mobilization would be sustained to generate support for APC candidates, especially Yayi, who he described as his preferred candidate for governor.

Explaining its support to the Ogun West Senator, the group said its support was based on his experience, ability, record and vision for the State.

He said he expects the Yayi administration to promote greater inclusion of people with disabilities in governance and economic activities.

Among his expectations are sustainable empowerment and employment opportunities for persons with disabilities, full implementation of the Ogun State Disability Act 2017 and the establishment of an effective disability commission or agency headed by a qualified person with disability.

The group also called for greater political representation for qualified people with disabilities through appointments, elected positions, boards of directors and government agencies.

He also advocated for inclusive decision-making that would give people with disabilities a significant role in government decision-making.

Another key demand is the creation of three vocational rehabilitation centers, one in each senatorial district, to provide rehabilitation, vocational training and skill acquisition for people with disabilities.

The group said these demands are part of its advocacy for an Ogun State where disability is not a barrier to political participation, economic opportunity or leadership.

Reaffirming its political allegiance, the group said it will continue to operate peacefully within the APC structure and mobilize support for Tinubu, Yayi and other recognized APC candidates contesting legislative and other elective positions.

He added that while individual citizens remain free to make their own political choices, no individual or organization should associate the Yayi Special Persons Support Group with political activities without its authorization.
