AFCON Qualifiers: Charlton confirms Okonkwo invitation to Super Eagles

English Championship side Charlton have announced the invitation of Arthur Okonkwo to the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifying matches later this month, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

In a post on their social media, the club announced that the 24-year-old goalkeeper is ready to make his competitive debut for Nigeria in the AFCON qualifiers.

The Super Eagles will begin their campaign to be in AFCON 2027 with a home draw in Uyo against Madagascar on September 23 before traveling to play Guinea-Bissau four days later.

Okonkwo, who joined Charlton from Championship side Wrexham, made his international debut for Nigeria during the Unity Cup summer tournament.

He kept consecutive clean sheets against Zimbabwe and Jamaica respectively, helping Nigeria retain the title they won last year. It was his first series of matches for Nigeria after switching his international allegiance from England to Nigeria.

His invitation sets him up for his competitive debut, but he faces strong competition from the duo of Stanley Nwabali and Maduka Okoye.
