90 year old grandmother caught with 876kg of cannabis

A 90-year-old grandmother, Godwoman Gboriye, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Bayelsa State in connection with a massive shipment of cannabis weighing 876kg.

The elderly woman was among four suspects arrested in Ovom, Yenagoa, during a major drugs raid that yielded 110 bags of cannabis, as the drug enforcement agency stepped up a nationwide crackdown on illicit drug trafficking.

His arrest was one of the highlights of the NDLEA’s latest operations in Lagos, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Kaduna, Plateau, Bayelsa and Kano, which resulted in the recovery of over 2.3 tonnes of assorted illicit drugs.

The other suspects arrested along with the 90-year-old grandmother were Motombo Silver, 44; Father Andrew, 39; and Keme Andrew, 43.

Operation Bayelsa was part of the agency’s broader offensive against cannabis trafficking and other forms of illicit drug distribution across the country.

In Lagos, the NDLEA also intercepted two consignments of synthetic cannabis, popularly known as Colorado or Colos, coming from the United Kingdom.

At the import shed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, officers intercepted 27 parcels of Colorado weighing 32.20kg hidden in a consolidated cargo from the United Kingdom.

An estate agent, Abideen Jide Salami, was arrested on Wednesday, September 9, after allegedly showing up to collect luggage containing the illicit substance using a secret collection code reportedly sent to him by his brother in the UK.

A subsequent operation linked to another UK-bound shipment led to the arrest of 44-year-old Nurudeen Abiodun Kadiri, allegedly the intended recipient of another 12.25kg of Colorado.

Kadiri reportedly told investigators that his brother in the UK sent the shipment.
