The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is alerting the entire public community, especially motorists, of a fraudulent scheme involving the circulation of unsolicited text messages purportedly issued by the Corps and notifying recipients of alleged “new records of traffic violations” requiring immediate action. The fraudulent messages, which are spread across mobile devices and social media platforms, direct unsuspecting members of the public to a deceptive website designed to impersonate the digital identity of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
One of the popular links is “frscgov.top/ng,” which has no affiliation with the Federal Road Safety Corps. The Corps’ official website is www.frsc.gov.ng, while its verified online platforms and services are hosted via authorized FRSC digital channels. The Corps therefore unequivocally disavows the messages and website, emphasizing that members of the public should not consider such communications to be from FRSC.
The fraudulent message typically creates a sense of urgency by informing the recipient that a new traffic violation has been recorded against them and inviting them to click on a link to “review relevant details.” The Corps warns that such links may be intended to collect personal information, financial details or other sensitive data from unsuspecting victims. FRSC would like to make it clear that no member of the public should click on suspicious links, make payments, disclose banking information, passwords, card details, driving license information, vehicle registration details or other personal information in response to such messages.
Members of the public who receive these messages are advised to preserve evidence, avoid further contact with the sender and report the matter through appropriate channels.
For the avoidance of doubt, motorists are advised to check for any alleged traffic violations directly through the official FRSC channels and not through links contained in unsolicited messages. The Corps maintains official digital platforms for its services, while its published contact channels include the national toll-free line 122 and the FRSC’s official website, www.frsc.gov.ng.
The Corps also warns the people and criminal elements behind the plan that the identity, name, insignia, digital platforms and institutional credibility of the Federal Road Safety Corps are not instruments of criminal exploitation. Deliberate impersonation of FRSC personnel and the use of counterfeit digital platforms to deceive motorists are matters of serious concern and the Corps will work with relevant law enforcement and cybersecurity authorities to pursue appropriate action against those responsible.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, mni, therefore directed that the public be adequately sensitized about the fraudulent scheme, while urging motorists to exercise vigilance in their online engagements. He emphasized that the Corps remains committed to protecting the integrity of its digital systems and ensuring that technology used to administer traffic safety is not exploited by fraudsters to deceive or extort members of the public.
He therefore invites Nigerians to “STOP, CHECK, REPORT”. Any message claiming to be from the Corps must first be verified through the FRSC’s official website and established communication channels. Members of the public are also encouraged to share this warning widely to prevent unsuspecting motorists from falling victim to the scam; as the Corps will not be liable for losses arising from the use of unauthorized websites, links, or individuals falsely representing themselves as representatives of the Corps.
