The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister of Works, Engineer David Umahi, for their investments in infrastructure development.
NANS expressed the praise in a statement by NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, at the start of a nationwide tour of federal road projects leading to tertiary institutions across the country.
According to the NANS President, the tour, which began on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, in Kaduna State, was aimed at assessing the quality and impact of federal road projects on the movement of students.
He noted that the tour began at the Federal Co-operative College, Kaduna, along the Kaduna-Abuja road, where the ongoing road construction project of the Federal Government was inspected.
He said the Kaduna-Abuja road project passes directly through the Federal Co-operative College, Kaduna, providing a major access route used by students on a daily basis.
“The Kaduna-Kano road, especially the stretch that passes through Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, is of good quality. I have also sought students’ opinions on the construction of the road that passes through the college,” he said.
Comrade Afeez added: “The students praised the President and the Honorable Minister of Works for the project, stressing that the improvement of the road has eased their movement and reduced transportation difficulties.”
“This is especially important for us as students. We travel along these roadways daily to our various institutions, making their quality and accessibility a matter of direct concern to . As major users of the nation’s road infrastructure, NANS leadership will continue to visit federal road projects across the country, evaluate their quality, and examine their impact on students’ daily commutes to and from our institutions.”
The NANS president emphasized, “This tour is aimed at assessing, first-hand, the condition and quality of the roads leading to our campuses, identifying challenges and making recommendations where necessary.”
Pointing out that the NANS leadership arrived in Kano State following the tour, where they inspected the Kaduna-Kano road, which passes through the Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, he said during the inspection, the team examined the quality of the road and its impact on the movement of students in and around the institution and that improved road infrastructure has made commuting easier.
Comrade Afeez said that, during the tour, the team engaged students of Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education and the leadership of the Students’ Union on the importance of political consciousness and infrastructural development, adding that students are directly affected by government policies and must remain actively involved in policy formulation and government projects, especially those that affect them.
NANS management said the tour will continue to other parts of the country, after which an official report and recommendations will be submitted to the relevant authorities.
