Guinea-Bissau got off to a perfect start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with an impressive 2-0 away win over co-hosts Tanzania in the opening round of Group L on Friday.
Goals from Franculino in the 33rd minute and Mama Balde in the 58th minute secured the victory for Guinea-Bissau.
Tanzania, which is already automatically qualified for 2027 as co-hosts with Kenya and Uganda, is still competing in the qualifiers.
The match was their first competitive outing since a 6-0 friendly victory over Macau in March.
Because Tanzania is classified as the hosts, only the highest ranked team among the other three will join them in AFCON 2027.
Djurtus will host the Nigerian Super Eagles on September 29 at the Estadio 24 de Setembro in Bissau, while Tanzania will look to bounce back in Madagascar.
Meanwhile, in the other group match the Super Águilas will host Madagascar.
