The tragedy occurred in the early hours of Sunday when bandits invaded Unguwar Sarki area of Bungdu town, headquarters of Bungdu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing one person and kidnapping twelve others.
The victim killed during the attack has been identified as Alhaji Usman Aliyu, popularly known as Babangida Kuku.
Sources in the city revealed that the abducted people included four women, seven men and a newborn.
According to residents, the bandits stormed the community in large numbers, shooting sporadically to instill fear before carrying out the operation.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers operated for some time without response from security forces, a situation that increased panic and anxiety among residents.
“Alhaji Aliyu was killed on the spot, while the twelve victims were taken away to an unknown destination,” a resident said.
Residents have appealed to security agencies and the Zamfara state government to urgently strengthen security presence in the area and step up efforts to rescue the kidnapped victims unharmed.
Bungdu Local Government Area has recently been one of the hotspots of banditry in Zamfara despite ongoing military operations in the area.
Contacted by Blueprint, State Police Command Public Relations Officer DSP Yazid Abuibakar confirmed the incident, saying details will be announced soon.
