Nigeria @66: Defense Minister Blames Unity and Security – Blueprint Newspapers Limited

Defense Minister, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Retd), on Sunday joined Christian faithful, senior government officials and members of the diplomatic corps for an interfaith religious service at the National Christian Center in Abuja to mark the 66th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence.

According to a statement by media assistant to the minister Leah Katung-Babatunde, the service, themed “Anchored in Hope: The Path to Divine Stability and Shared Prosperity,” formed an important part of the official activities planned for the national celebration.

General Musa performed the first reading of the Scriptures, conveying a message focused on faith, national peace and collective security.

Highlighting the imperative of national cohesion and the sacrifices of the nation’s security forces, General Musa said: “As we celebrate 66 years of our nation, our hope for a peaceful, secure and prosperous Nigeria remains unshakable. Security is not simply an operational task; it is the fundamental foundation on which national unity and shared prosperity are built.

“Nigeria’s Armed Forces remain firmly committed to safeguarding our sovereignty and restoring lasting peace in all regions. I urge all Nigerians to stand firm, support our men and women in uniform, and unite in faith as we build a nation anchored in divine stability.”

According to the statement, the service attracted prominent state leaders, including the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, service chiefs, members of the diplomatic community and respected clergy.

In his remarks, Senate President Godswill Akpabio offered prayers for the nation, stressing the need for harmony and concerted national effort towards achieving sustainable peace.

Delivering the vote of thanks, Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, reiterated the importance of democratic stability as the country prepares for future civic achievements.

“As we look to the next elections in 2027, let us remember that democracy is underpinned by peace and unity,” SGF Akume noted, encouraging citizens to maintain unwavering support for the democratic process.
