The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vowed to resign from his post announced on January 17, 2027, if President Bola Tinubu loses the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Rivers State in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike took the oath while addressing the leadership and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja on Wednesday.
He reiterated his support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, stating that his continued tenure would be difficult to justify if he fails to provide electoral support to the president in the FCT, where he currently serves as a minister, and Rivers State, his home state.
“If I can’t deliver results where I work, then I don’t deserve to be here,” Wike said.
Meanwhile, in an apparent challenge to the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), which opposes the Rainbow Coalition, Wike urged Tinubu supporters to prove their capacity through the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the January 16, 2027 presidential election.
Explaining how he achieved his victory for Tinubu in Rivers and the FCT, which are far apart, Wike said that just as his work speaks for itself in his home state, the FCT government is building a multi-party coalition to secure victory in various elective offices in the FCT.
Wike, who remains Tinubu’s main supporter despite belonging to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said support for the president would extend to candidates vying for legislative seats in the FCT.
According to him, a multi-party coalition is being formed in the region to mobilize support for candidates in various elected positions.
Wike also endorsed former FCT Senator, Philip Aduda, for Senate, describing him as “a man of the people,” while backing the former regional assembly chairman for a House of Representatives seat.
