Trade fair: Domestic manufacturing is key to economic resilience, says Dangote

The Dangote Group has reaffirmed the critical role of domestic manufacturing in strengthening Nigeria’s economic resilience.

The group said this weekend through its Group Managing Director, Abdullahi Bello Danmusa, represented the Regional Director/Senior Advisor to the President/CE of Dangote Group, Fatima Wali-Abdurrahman, at the Dangote Special Day at the ongoing Abuja International Fair.

Speaking on the theme of this year’s Fair, “Resilience: Trade, Taxation and Economy”, Danmusa said taxation remains a key component of national development.

He stressed that the Dangote Group takes its tax obligations seriously and contributes substantial revenue to government every year, while supporting employment, enterprise and value creation in all its operations.

According to him, trade could have a greater economic impact if supported by strong domestic production capacity.

“Trade becomes more meaningful when it is supported by manufacturing. No country can build lasting resilience by being overly dependent on imports that it has the capacity to produce competitively at home.

“This is why the Dangote Group continues to invest in manufacturing and industrial capacity in the cement, sugar, salt and seasoning, packaging, fertilizer, petrochemicals and petroleum refining sectors.

“The theme of this year’s Fair, ‘Resilience: Trade, Taxation and Economics,’ speaks directly to the realities of our time.

“Nigeria’s economic resilience will ultimately depend on a fundamental choice: continue to import what we can produce, or develop the capacity to produce, compete and export.”

Danmusa noted that strengthening domestic production capacity would help deepen economic activity, create jobs, support local businesses and reduce excessive dependence on imported products.

He added that the group’s investments in various sectors reflect its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s industrialization and contributing to the development of a more productive and resilient economy.
