The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited said the N66 per liter petrol discount at its petrol stations has been extended until October 31, 2026.
The company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, stated this on Friday, saying the move was a relief to customers and not a return to fuel subsidies.
NNPC launched the discount as an Independence Day promotion, with the number N66 linked to the 66th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence. This policy applies to every liter of petrol purchased at participating NNPC Retail petrol stations, and customers must pay via the NNPC Fuel App to obtain it.
This offer was originally valid from October 1 to 7.
NNPC Limited said the discount will now continue nationwide until the end of the month. They described the move as immediate relief for customers at a time of rising global crude oil prices, linked to conflicts in the Middle East.
The statement followed comments by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, who said the discount was not a subsidy and was funded from NNPC Retail’s own margin, not from the Federation Account. NNPC Limited urges the public to ignore the interpretation of the discount as a recovery of subsidies.
The company said the discount is only valid at NNPC Retail outlets.
