‘Riding’ to death: Why older men die during sex with young girls

What should be a pleasant time between older men and young girls often ends in death as the former often succumb to the cold hands of death while having sexual intercourse with young girls. PAUL OKAH, in this report, looks for causal factors.

Nowadays it is often a common occurrence to read about cases of older men dying while having sexual intercourse with young girls in different parts of the country, mostly in hotel rooms.

Recent cases

Last week, a 52-year-old senior lecturer at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Dr Matthew Uwuigbe, died shortly after having sexual intercourse with a 21-year-old commercial prostitute, Angela Defa Jacob, at a hotel in Edo State.

Similarly, a senior lecturer at Prince Abubakar Audu University, Kogi State, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, died in a hotel room in Anyigba after collapsing during a sexual encounter with a 22-year-old 200-level student, Gloria Samuel.

In July, a 60-year-old man died after sexual intercourse with a 20-year-old woman in a hotel room in Dutse, Jigawa state.

Also, a man, Abiodun Akintomowo, collapsed and died shortly after having sex with his girlfriend at a hotel in Ondo State.

In August, the FCT Police Command recovered the body of a man under Katampe Bridge, the deceased reportedly died after having sexual intercourse with a married woman at the Good Samaritan Guest House in Gwarinpa, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In 2025, a police officer, Insp. Lawal Ibrahim, assigned to Kwali Division, died at Palasa Guest Inn in Gwagwalada, after spending the night and having several sexual encounters with a woman he invited from Jigawa state.

Similarly, an employee of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Louis Nwachukwu, was found dead in a hotel room in Mpape, after checking in with a woman named Helen Raymond, who said he slept after sex and did not wake up.

Also, a 69-year-old man, Ogunleye Emmanuel, collapsed and died during a sexual encounter with a woman at a hotel in Kubwa, Abuja.

Many such cases abound in different parts of the country, some of which do not even reach the media space, but raise questions as to what could be the reason why older men die during or soon after having sexual intercourse with young girls.

Enhancement drugs

Speaking to our reporter, a doctor, Ezekiel Adeniran, said the use of enhancement drugs plays a major role in older men racing to their deaths during or after engaging in sexual activities with young girls. According to him, many men neglect their health to please girls.

He said: “The death of older men during or shortly after sexual intercourse – often medically termed sudden coital or post-coital death – is caused primarily by underlying cardiovascular stress combined with physical exertion. Most cases involve older men who already suffer from silent or diagnosed conditions such as coronary heart disease, atherosclerosis (narrowed or hardened arteries) or left ventricular hypertrophy (thickened heart muscle).

“As a result, physical exertion and the emotional/catecholaminergic surge of sexual activity increase heart rate and blood pressure. In a compromised heart, this additional workload can trigger a fatal arrhythmia (irregular heart rhythm) or acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). A sudden, severe injury in the inner layer of the aorta (the body’s main artery) can rupture under the sudden spike in blood pressure during orgasm, leading to rapid internal bleeding and problems cardiac. tamponade.

“The use of unregulated aphrodisiacs and enhancers also contributes to death in older men during or after sexual activities. This is why public health authorities often warn against the massive, unprescribed use of local and synthetic sexual enhancement drugs, herbal concoctions, and counterfeit stimulants. Many of these products contain hidden active pharmaceutical ingredients in high doses or unverified chemicals that severely increase blood pressure or interact dangerously with undiagnosed heart conditions.”

“Additionally, the use of phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors (such as sildenafil/Viagra) or street stimulants combined with alcohol or nitrate-containing drugs can cause a dangerous, life-threatening drop or erratic spike in blood pressure. The spike will then become fatal during or after sex, hence the numerous reported cases of older men dying in hotel rooms as a result of sexual activities.

“Additionally, sexual events that occur outside of the regular routine (such as meeting new partners or in high-stress/unfamiliar environments such as motels) have a statistically higher association with acute cardiovascular events due to elevated adrenaline and anxiety. “The man would simply want to have sex quickly when given the opportunity and then rush home to his wife or family. Death often occurs due to the factors mentioned above.”

On her part, a social commentator, Mrs Anita Ndukwe, advised men to remain faithful to their marriages, saying it is because of cheating and trying to satisfy young girls that older men die during sex.

He said, “As I am talking to you, an old man somewhere is busy making a date with a young girl, thinking about sex; unaware that she might just be booking a ride that will lead to his untimely death. It happens often, but men hardly learn. They just want to delude themselves that they can satisfy or please women, while the sexes are wired differently when it comes to sexual activities.

“During sex, heart rate and breathing accelerate, blood pressure rises, and blood vessels dilate to send excess blood to the genitals, causing an erection. All the previous physical changes in men intensify. Muscle tension increases, testicles rise. Orgasm is characterized by rhythmic, involuntary muscle contractions in the penis, along with spiking heart rate, blood pressure, and rapid breathing. In older men, fatalities occur during or after the aforementioned sexual activities.

“In fact, older men bring themselves to death by trying to please girls, which is difficult, if not impossible. Imagine a man in his 60s, 70s, or even 80s with age-related disorders exhausting himself by trying different sexual styles with a girl in her 20s or 30s. This type of girl (Gen-Z baddies, as they call themselves, but homewreckers to me) will rub the head of the man old enough to be hers grandfather and tells him to be harder on her. The age difference is too much and there is no way in the world that an old man can match the energy of a young girl when it comes to sexual activities.

“Age is not always the cause of death”

In an interview with Project weekenda public health professional, Joseph Elem, said that underlying health problems are mainly the reasons why older men die during or after sexual activities, regardless of the age of the partner.

He said: “Older men can die while having sex, but the age of the partner is not a medical determinant of whether cardiac or physical stress leads to a fatal event. Sudden death during or immediately after sexual activity is rare – accounting for about 0.2% to 0.6% of sudden deaths – and is predominantly caused by underlying cardiovascular problems such as a heart attack (myocardial infarction) triggered by physical exertion and increased heart rate during sex.

“In fact, forensic studies show that sudden cardiac deaths during sex in older cohorts typically average around age 59. Risks may be elevated in older or infirm men due to pre-existing heart disease, physical exertion, or use of certain medications (such as phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors like sildenafil) or recreational substances (like cocaine).

“Thus, sudden death during sexual activity in older men is caused primarily by acute cardiovascular events, such as a heart attack (myocardial infarction) or sudden cardiac arrest, rather than by the age of the partner. It is important to establish this fact because the partner or lover may be old or young, but the outcome will be the same for the older man.

“Furthermore, the use of erectile dysfunction drugs (such as sildenafil and tadalafil), combined with physical exertion during intercourse or with recreational stimulants (such as cocaine, methamphetamine, caffeine mixed with energy drinks), can cause sharp drops or spikes in blood pressure and place severe stress on the cardiovascular system during sex, thus leading to death.

“Simply put, a partner’s age is not a direct medical cause of death. However, age differences or extramarital encounters often correlate with specific behavioral dynamics – such as increased emotional or physical stress, attempts to perform at a higher intensity, or use of performance-enhancing drugs – that increase cardiovascular risk in an already vulnerable older individual.”
