Adamawa: Rector urges FG to upgrade Yola College of Education into University

The Chancellor of Federal College of Education (FCE) Yola, Dr. Mohammed Usman Degereji, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government to transform the institution into Federal University of Education Yola.

He made the appeal at the weekend in Yola during his address at the institution’s 16th joint convocation.

According to him, the upgrade would further reposition the institution to meet future challenges.

He explained that since the establishment of the institution as FATC in 1974, they have produced quality teachers with excellent results which have earned them the dual mandate of awarding both degree and NCE, hence the need to convert the college into a full-fledged University of Education.

Also speaking, the Minister of Education, Dr. Mourufu Alausa, said the Tinubu-led administration recognizes education as a key pillar of Nigeria’s development, adding that it is implementing so many policies and initiatives to improve the quality of education in the country.

He said the current administration has improved access to quality education by enhancing investment in schools, strengthening TETFUND interventions and needs assessment among other initiatives that have repositioned the sector.

The minister also called for collective efforts to revamp the country’s education sector and tasked the institution to strengthen partnerships with the private sector, development partners, research institutes and other stakeholders.

In his remarks, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, represented by his deputy, Prof. Kalerapwa Farauta, an alumnus of the institution, reiterated his administration’s support for all federal tertiary institutions in the state.

Fintiri also highlighted some of his administration’s achievements in the education sector, including investments in schools, strengthening scholarship programs and teacher training, among others.
