Sports247 reports that two wins in a row put Nigeria firmly in control at home, while Uganda is also matching them head-to-head to clinch the second zone ticket up for grabs at two venues in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Special Assistant on Media to Honorable Bukola Olopade, Kola Daniel, has revealed that Nigeria is leading the ICC Africa Sub-Regional C Qualifier, following wins in its first two matches, with Uganda keeping pace in the race for just two qualification tickets to the next stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2027 Qualifier.
Nigeria tops the six-team table with four points from two matches and a net run rate of 5.6129, ahead of Uganda, which also has four points but a net run rate of 3.8635; while Lesotho and Mozambique occupy third and fourth place respectively, with two points each, with one victory and one defeat.
Daniel added: “The tournament, which began on October 20 at the Twin Cricket Ovals in Abuja, brings together Nigeria, Uganda, Lesotho, Mozambique, Zambia and Gambia in a round-robin competition for two places in the next phase of the global qualification pathway.
“Nigeria’s strong start is providing an encouraging boost to the host country’s campaign as the senior men’s team looks to build on the country’s recent progress in international cricket, including qualification for the ICC Under-19 Women’s World Cup for the second consecutive time and the men’s under-19 promotion to the First Division.
“The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Honorable Bukola Olopade, welcomed the participating teams and officials to Abuja and described the competition as an important platform to showcase Africa’s growing cricket talent and strengthen sporting partnerships across the continent.”
Sports247 added that although Nigeria and Uganda appeared to be setting an early pace, the race for just two qualifying places is still open as all teams continue to put up brave displays during the intense competition in Abuja.
