The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has made the decision to exclude Nigerian referees from officiating at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, as CAF revealed the list of 85 referees selected for a preparatory course ahead of the 2023 AFCON.
Notably absent from the list were Nigerian referees, marking another occasion where they have been excluded from continental duties.
This trend was evident in the previous edition of the AFCON held in Cameroon, where only one Nigerian official, Samuel Pwadutakam, was appointed as an assistant referee among the 63 match officials present at the tournament.
The list released by CAF includes 32 centre referees, 33 assistant referees, four VAR officials, as well as eight technical and physical instructors, among others.
While the absence of Nigerian referees is noteworthy, it is important to focus on the overall preparations and participation of the upcoming 2023 AFCON.
