Ex-SGF commissions laboratories donated by NDIC to  alma mater

The immediate-past Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Dr. Boss Mustapha Gida, has commissioned laboratories in his alma mater, Government Secondary School (GSS) Hong, Adamawa state.

The Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Agriculture laboratories were built in 1967 and not renovated until 1992 when the school was managed by Denish missionaries as Government College Hong.

However, the dilapidated laboratories, which were renovated by the National Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) as part of its 2022 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), were commissioned Tuesday amidst joy by thousands of students and staff of the school.

Mustapha recounted the historic journey he had as a student in 1970. He passed out in 1974 not knowing what the future held for him until God designed who he is today.

The former SGF charged the students to be determined and be the best as it was his driving force that made him what he is today.

“I’m 67 years old today. God has truly helped me achieve quite a lot, all because I was focused and determined to do my best. One thing I know is if you do your best the sky is your limit,” he said

The thousands of students who converged on the Boss Mustapha Hall were strongly advised by the former SGF to shun all forms of societal ills.

He said they are not there by chance, assuring them that their future will be better and greater than his if they shun bad gangs, drugs, and the transgender quest of young Nigerians trying to transform themselves to something else.

He said the trending societal ills are not what define who they are as a people of good cultural upgrading and good moral backgrounds.

“I never took for granted during my study here knowing the fact that my father was just a class teacher and retired as a headmaster, but we all did our best that the school you are for four consecutive years became the best in WASC during our time,” he stated.
