Boniface becomes Leverkusen Top scorer, Team extends unbeaten streak

Making a significant impact after coming off the bench, Boniface who played for 23 minutes, scored a goal from the spot, after his fellow countryman Nathan Tella was brought down in the penalty box.

He converted from the spot and has now reclaimed his position as the club’s top scorer this season with 12 goals.

Despite already winning the league title for the first time in their history, Bayer Leverkusen remain focused on their quest for the treble.

After enduring a three-month injury and missing the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Boniface has had four goals contribution in eight games his since return – 19 goals and 10 assists in 31 appearances across all competitions this season.

Former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro had acknowledged the Forward’s potential, stating that he would have been a valuable asset to the national team had he been available for the AFCON.

The 23-year-old is expected to return for Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers in June with games against South Africa and Benin Republic coming up.
