The Nigerian military on Friday deployed 197 personnel to a peacekeeping mission in Gambia.
Nigerian Army Chief of Operations, Maj. Gen. Boniface Sinjen stated this at the graduation of troops of the Nigerian Company 9 Economic Community of West African States Mission in the Gambia (ECOMIG) in Jaji, Kaduna State.
Troops began Pre-Deployment Training (PDT) at the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Center (MLAILPKC) Jaji on May 4.
Sinjen said the training had equipped troops with the tactical skills and knowledge necessary for peace support operations.
He said: βThis has prepared you to protect civilians and accomplish the tasks assigned under the ECOMIG mandate.

βYou have learned the importance of teamwork, leadership, and cultural sensitivity as well as other factors that will ensure your success in the mission area.
βYou have been trained in the latest techniques and procedures for maintaining peace and stability in complex environments and instilled in the values ββof discipline, respect for human rights, and compassion for the people you seek to protect.
βYour mission comes at a critical time, when The Gambia faces a period of uncertainty and instability.
βYour role is critical in maintaining peace, protecting life and promoting sustainable development.β
He urged troops to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights in the operation.
