Police in Oyo appeal for calm as separatist group distributes eviction notices

The Oyo State Police Command has debunked a viral video circulating on social media, purportedly showing a separatist group issuing an eviction ultimatum to herders in the Igboho area.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan, the Police Public Relations Officer SP Adewale Osifeso described the video as a sinister attempt to incite violence and disrupt peace in the state.

According to Osifeso, the video is completely fake and no eviction notice was issued by any individual or group.

“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to debunk as misleading and a big lie the baseless rumours and speculations circulating on the social media, regarding the alleged eviction of Herdsmen in Igboho, Oorelope Local Government Area by suspected members of a separatist group.

“No eviction notice was served by any individual or group to anyone at any time,” Osifeso said.

Commissioner of Police, Ayodele Sonubi, has deployed additional personnel and resources to the area to prevent potential disturbances and ensure the safety of all residents.

Police have appealed to the public to remain calm and ignore misleading information spread by suspected separatist groups.

The command works to maintain peace and order in the state, and anyone spreading false information or inciting violence will be held accountable.
