Sacked Senate President, Ali Ndume, has reacted to his removal from office.
The Senate on Wednesday removed the outspoken lawmaker as Chief Whip following the recommendation of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He has since been replaced by Senator representing Borno North, Mohammed Monguno, in the position.
Ndume was fired days after he criticized President Bola Tinubu’s leadership style.
The lawmaker, who appeared on a programme on Arise TV, said the president had been locked up by his aides in Aso Rock.
He added that Tinubu is unaware of the challenges facing Nigerians because he is far removed from the current reality in the country.
He also argued that former President Muhammadu Buhari was a more accessible leader.
Ndume, who spoke to journalists in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Friday, said the remarks that led to his removal as Chief Whip did not warrant the decision.
The lawmaker said he turned down the position of Senate Tourism Committee chairman due to his lack of experience.
He said: “I did not say anything wrong. Therefore, I would like to state that I stand by all my statements in the interviews I gave.
“So, I know that I am not wrong. People are not wrong for telling the truth and sticking to the truth.
“And I pray that the president, who at this point, I think the message has gotten through to him, sees what I have said and takes the right action to eliminate the suffering of the people.
“Secondly, the party that proposed to the Senate that I be removed from my position as Senate leader, I consider it as an act of God because if it was God who gave me that position. God took it through the APC. So, I do not hold a grudge over that.
“Moreover, I did not contest to be the chairman of the committee. I did not contest to be the vice chairman of the appropriations committee. I contested to be one of the Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and God granted me that victory and I am happy with what God has given me.”
