Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has approved a weekly day off and a monthly transport allowance of N10,000 for civil servants in the state, as part of measures to ease the financial burden of rising fuel prices and rising cost of living.

The measure, which will come into force from April 2026, will last three months and will apply to workers in all ministries, departments and agencies of the state.
Service chief Kehinde Onasanya, who announced the measures in a statement on Thursday, said the governor acted in response to hardships imposed on workers by the recent increase in prices at fuel pumps and its knock-on effect on transportation costs and general living standards.
“To provide relief to the teeming workforce of Ogun State in light of the rising pump price of fuel and the consequent impact on the cost of transportation and overall standard of living, Governor Abiodun has graciously approved one day of rest in a week for workers in the state,” Onasanya said.
However, workers with essential duties – including medical staff, judicial staff, teachers, security personnel and heads of departments – will be exempted from the weekly day off, although they will still be entitled to the N10,000 transportation allowance.
Onasanya added that accountants at each MDA will determine the specific day off for eligible workers to ensure service delivery is not disrupted.
The service chief commended the governor for what he described as timely intervention and urged workers to reciprocate the gesture with greater dedication and productivity.
