ADC faction leaders rejected the David Mark-led convention as an annulment and a contempt of court

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction, Nafiu Bala-Gombe, has described the national convention held on April 14 by the party faction led by David Mark as a cancellation and an affront to the court.

Bala-Gombe, who stated this at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, stressed that the convention was an act of blatant disregard for the High Court ruling.

He said: “Any action taken in blatant disregard of the High Court decision delivered on March 12, 2026 not only has questionable legality but can also be declared null and void.

“The absence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at this convention indicates that the process lacks official recognition and cannot withstand legal scrutiny regarding its legitimacy.”

Bala-Gombe also said that the actions of the faction were a violation of the ADC constitution and demonstrated a violation of the law.

He stated that since the case was pending before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja, the national convention was a violation of the party constitution.

Bala-Gombe claimed that the matter had a criminal dimension following the creation of a forged document containing his forged signature, with the intention of damaging his reputation.

Therefore, he separated his faction from the actions taken by the Mark-led faction, saying that they were not members of the ADC.

Bala-Gombe, whose expulsion was announced by the Mark-led faction at its April 14 national convention, said the faction had no authority to expel him or other party members because of their stance as illegitimate members.

“As far as the legitimate and legitimate leadership of the party is concerned, the coalition group is not a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“As a result, they do not have the necessary locus standi to convene or host any congress or convention, and any resolutions or decisions resulting from such meetings have no legal force,” he concluded.

Also speaking, members of the DPR. Leke Abejide, described the convention as illegal and unconstitutional.

Abejide said orders from the Federal High Court and the Supreme Court clearly ordered the faction not to hold the convention.

“We want the public to know that the suya convention held by the ADC coalition on April 14, 2026 at the event center in Abuja is null and void.

“There have been court orders from the Federal High Court and the Supreme Court that they should not do anything until this case is decided in court,” he said.
