Ahead of the primaries, the APC ruled out vetting for Tinubu

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially waived the screening requirement for President Bola Tinubu, and granted him permission to participate in the upcoming party primaries without having to appear before the screening committee.

At its 188th meeting held on Wednesday, the NWC decided to deem Tinubu as screened in line with the APC Constitution.

The decision was stated in a statement signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, taken under the powers granted to the committee under Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv), which authorizes the committee to conduct primaries and grant relief in special circumstances if it is in the best interests of the party.

The statement noted that following the meeting, the NWC highlighted the overwhelming support and confidence that President Tinubu received from key stakeholders, including the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), leadership and members of the National Assembly, and other party organs at the APC National Summit on May 22, 2025, and subsequent legal events.

The party noted that as the incumbent President and leader of the APC, already screened and cleared ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries, requiring his physical presence before another screening committee at this time is “excessive and unnecessary.”
