An angry mob sets fire to a BRT bus after the death of a motorcyclist in Lagos

An angry mob has reportedly set ablaze a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus after allegedly crushing a commercial motorcyclist to death at the Ogolonto bus stop in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The accident reportedly occurred on Friday, October 16, sparking outrage among residents and other road users in the area, who allegedly attacked the vehicle and set it on fire following the motorcyclist’s death.

The incident sparked tension at the busy bus stop as residents reacted to the deadly incident, with the situation reportedly escalating into violence against the BRT vehicle.

According to a report by The PUNCH, police officers and officials of the Lagos Neighborhood Security Corps intervened to prevent further escalation and rescued the bus driver from the angry mob.

“I live in OGOLONTO.

“A cyclist was crushed to death by the BRT bus, and in turn, the STREET BOYS burned the BRT bus,” the user wrote.

A video trending on X reportedly showed the incident. However, the full circumstances leading up to the collision and the events immediately preceding the vehicle fire had yet to be independently ascertained.

The identity of the deceased motorcyclist was not immediately known, while details on how the accident occurred are unclear.

The circumstances of the accident remain unclear

At the time of writing this report there is no official confirmation either on the causes of the accident or whether the motorcyclist died on the spot.

Authorities are expected to establish the sequence of events that led to the motorcyclist’s death and the subsequent destruction of the BRT bus.
