Siminalayi Fubara’s political future was thrown into fresh uncertainty on Sunday after he abruptly walked out of the screening exercise organized by the All Progressives Congress in Abuja.
It is said that Fubara, who arrived at the venue – the Plateau State Governors’ Lodge – at about 3.15pm, left moments later clearly angry, sparking speculation of a possible disagreement with members of the screening committee.
Sources on the scene indicated that the governor may not have completed the screening process before his sudden exit, though details of what transpired were unclear as of press time.
The development has heightened concerns over Fubara’s position within the APC and his broader political trajectory amid ongoing tensions in Rivers State politics.
Reacting to the incident, APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, who also serves as the Secretary of the Screening Committee, refused to confirm whether the governor had been screened.
“I don’t know what you mean by screening. Whoever comes before the screening committee, of course, is part of the process,” Basiru told reporters.
He added that the committee is yet to conclude its assignment or issue any official report.
“It is natural that everyone has to appear before the screening committee. After the exercise, the committee will meet and submit its report. As of now, there is no report,” he said.
Fubara’s dramatic exit comes amid growing political uncertainty in Rivers State, with analysts suggesting that the episode could signal deeper cracks in the party’s internal alignment ahead of future political contests.
Efforts to get an official response from the governor were unsuccessful as of the filing of this report.
