The Option A4 voting system adopted yesterday for the conduct of the House of Representatives race in Imo State led to the defeat of four incumbent members of the House during the All Progressives Congress primaries held in Imo State on Saturday ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Hope Uzodinma had proposed the option for the primaries, which will be held in the 10 federal constituencies of the state.
The legislators affected are Matthew Nwogu (Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala), Miriam Odinaka Onuoha (Okigwe South), Harrison Anozie Nwadike (Isu/Njaba/Nkwerre/Nwangele) and Emeka Martins Chinedu (Ahiazu/Ezinihitte).
Candidates that emerged from the exercise include Ngozi Pat-Ekeji for Aboh/Ngor-Okpala, Chukwudi Anyanwuocha for Ahiazu/Ezinihitte, Sandra Inyama for Ideato North/South, Canice Moore Nwachukwu Omeogo for Orlu/Orsu/Oru East, Jonas Okeke for Okigwe South, Uchenna Agasu for Okigwe North, Dibiagwu Eugene for Oguta/Ohaji-Egbema/Oru-West, Cosmos Maduba for Nkwerre/Nwangele/Isu/Njaba, Akarachi Amadi for Mbaike and Tochi Okere for Owerri Federal Constituency.
Obasa wins the Agege Federal House of Reps APC primaries unopposed
Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA), has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election to the federal House of Representatives unopposed.
After his victorious exit, he thanked the faithful and party members for their full support.
Obasa, while making remarks after the election to Ward E Oyewole Primary Agege, thanked stakeholders and party members for giving him full support to represent Agege at the green chamber.
“This is another opportunity given to me by my constituents to represent them in the federal House of Representatives, and I am ensuring they have more effective representation in the upper legislative house,” he said.
Chief Ganiyu Egunjobi, former Chairman of Agege Local Government, said the people of Agege were behind the Lagos speaker and that was why the elections were held peacefully without conflict within the community.
“There is no secret behind these primaries; the people of Agege have really shown that they support our leader, our speaker Obasa.
“At the same time, it also shows that we are one in the Agege and speak with one voice through our vote, and that the speaker is the aspirant and candidate for the federal constituency of the Agege.
“There is no opposition, no one disputes with him
The former Agege president, also an aspirant from LAHA Agege I constituency, said there were 11 wards in the Agege federal constituency and all party members had decided to vote for Obasa as their candidate for the House of Representatives.
Oladapo Yusuf, an aspirant vying for Lagos State Assembly Constituency II, said the turnout of party members was huge as people came out to support and vote for their party flag bearer to the Federal House of Representatives.
Hundreds of APC party members in Agege Federal Constituency have gathered en masse to cast their votes for the Lagos Speaker in the party’s primary elections on Saturday.
Vice President, Kalu, wins APC ticket to run for 3rd term
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Benjamin Kalu, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Bende Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kalu was elected unopposed during Saturday’s party primary elections in Bende.
Kalu’s bid for a third term received a boost when party members from the 13 constituencies that make up the constituency unanimously affirmed his candidacy.
The wards include Alayi, Bende, Ezeukwu, Igbere, Item, Itumbuzo, Nkpa, Ntalakwu, Ozuitem, Ugwueke, Umu-Imenyi, Umuhu-Ezechi and Uzuakoli.
The exercise, which began at the constituency level, recorded a large turnout of party members and stakeholders who participated in the affirmation process.
District leaders, stakeholders and delegates have lauded the Vice President for his quality leadership, effective legislative representation and commitment to grassroots development since assuming office.
They said his unopposed appearance reflected the overwhelming confidence reposed in him by APC members and voters.
Speaking after the statement, Kalu thanked party faithful, community leaders, youth and women’s groups and other voters for their continued support and trust in his leadership.
He pledged to support efforts to attract democratic dividends to the constituency, promote inclusive governance and advance policies that would improve welfare and expand economic opportunities for the people.
Earlier, the Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee for Abia, Erasmus Cishak, assured party members and aspirants of a peaceful, transparent and smooth process across the state.
Cishak stressed that the committee will uphold fairness and credibility and urged aspirants, delegates and stakeholders to behave responsibly and abide by the rules.
Ihonvbere, Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Iyawe, loses bids to return to Edo
The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Professor Julius Ihonvbere, has lost his bid to return to the House after losing the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election for Owan Federal Constituency.
The Returning Officer, Kelvin Muhammed, who announced the result at the party’s Afuze office, said Honorable Andrew Ijegbai, former Commissioner for Mining, won the election with a score of 3695.
According to him, “Five people contested this election. They are Hon. Andrew Ijegbai, Hon. Abdul Oroh Professor Julius Ihonvbere, Hon. Folly Ogedegbe and Barrister Stewart. “The scores are as follows, Honorable Andrew Ijegbia got 3,695 votes. The Honorable Abdul Oroh obtained 1,740 votes while Professor Julius Ihonvbere obtained 1,005 votes “The Honorable Folly obtained 505 votes. Lawyer Scot obtained 642 votes. The total votes cast is 7,587 and the winner of this contest which is the primaries is Hon. Andrew Ijegbai.”
Likewise, Honorable Eseosa Iyawe who represented Oredo Federal Constituency lost his bid for re-election. He was defeated by Dr Paddy Iyamu who got 7088 votes.
