Bandit leader Buharin Yadi, others killed along Kaduna-Katsina border

The Nigerian military has reportedly killed a terrorist, Buharin Yadi, who is said to be one of the deadliest bandit leaders to terrorize North Korea in the past decade.

News of his killing was greeted with joy among the Kaduna-Katsina border communities.

The Comptroller, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State, Samuel Aruwan said on Thursday that troops of Operation Whirl Punch Sector 6 rained fire on the kingpin known as Buhari Alhaji Halidu (aka Buharin Yadi) and his followers, and ended their reign of terror.

Aruwan narrated: “Halidu was neutralized in a fierce encounter with troops (under the coordination of their Commander-in-Chief, also the General Officer Commanding One Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General MLD Saraso) which took place in the vicinity of Idasu forest on the border between Giwa LGA of Kaduna State and Sabuwa LGA of Katsina State.

“The troops commenced the covert operation in response to intelligence reports regarding the movement of terrorists from Samunaka, Saulawa area of ​​Katsina State.

“On advancing to Samunaka, troops found settlements destroyed and livestock killed, evidence of recent criminal activity by bandits.

“Heavy fighting immediately broke out, when approaching terrorists were hit with artillery shells in Hayin Almajiri. The troops then fought bravely through ambushes, to achieve their objective. Initial assessments indicated that at least 36 bandits were eliminated in the battle.

“Finally, it was confirmed that one of those neutralized was Kachalla Buharin Yadi. Kachalla Buhari Alhaji Halidu (also known as Buharin Yadi or Buhari Janar) and bandits under his command have unleashed terror on residents in Kidandan/Galadimawa general area in Giwa LGA, Sabon Birni/Kerawa general area in Igabi LGA, and other locations nearby . Sabuwa LGA in Katsina State, and some parts of Niger and Zamfara States.

“Buharin Yadi is involved in large-scale livestock raids, arms trafficking and drug trafficking. He has led his gang in looting communities and massacred and kidnapped thousands of citizens in Kaduna and neighboring states.

“These merciless bandits are also known to have links with other deadly terrorist groups in the North East and North West.

“This breakthrough ends the security forces’ manhunt for these terrorists, which has been going on for more than five years. News of his death spread quickly, sparking massive aid and widespread celebrations among local residents in Kaduna and Katsina states.

“Receiving the report, the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani expressed his delight at the development, which he described as indicative of the courage, proactivity and efficiency of the troops involved.

“The Governor commended the GOC, Major General Saraso for his outstanding leadership, and commended the troops for the comprehensive victory. Governor Sani assured the security forces in Kaduna State of their continued support and continued collaborative attitude of the Government.

“The public is hereby informed that several terrorists suffered gunshot wounds during the clash. Therefore, citizens in the general area and surrounding areas are instructed not to provide assistance (medical or otherwise) to individuals who have suffered suspicious injuries, but to immediately report the matter to security agencies.

“The Kaduna State Security Operations Room is available 24 hours a day to receive such reports via telephone lines 09034000060 and 08170189999. Special operations against bandits continue in the general area. The public is urged to continue to provide supportive information to security forces and the government.”
