Bayer Leverkusen Hail Striker’s Nigeria Debut

Bayer Leverkusen have hailed their striker, Victor Boniface, following his debut for Nigeria in the 6-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe in Super Eagles’ last Group A game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series, Completesports.com reports.

The Jose Peseiro-led team walloped Sao Tome and Principe 6-0 on Sunday, September 10 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.


Napoli striker Victor Osimhen scored the first goal of the game in the 13th minute and Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman sent a blazing shot past the opposition goalkeeper to make it 2-0 14 minutes later.

Taiwo Awoniyi made it 3-0 for Nigeria with an acrobatic finish six minutes after the second half resumed.

Boniface was subbed on for Taiwo Awoniyi in the 62nd minute of the encounter.

Boniface (12) celebrates with Samuel Chukwueze who utilized his assist for Nigeria’s 6th goal in the 6-0 win against the True Parrots of Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo.

Osimhen dispatched a penalty kick coolly in the 70th minute to grab his brace and make it 4-0. He finally got his hat trick with a tap in from close range after being teed up by substitute Samuel Chukwueze.

Chukwueze scored yet another goal for Nigeria in the encounter to make it 6-0 off a Boniface assist.

Bayer Leverkusen took to their official X (formerly Twitter) platform to herald their top striker.

“🇳🇬6-0 win on debut! Victor @boniface_jnr cones on as a substitute half an hour before Nigeria’s runaway win against Sao Tome & Principe,” the post reads.

Boniface has scored four goals and made two assists in three Bundesliga matches for Bayer Leverkusen so far this term.

The Super Eagles finished first in Group A of the AFCON qualifiers with 15 points after six games.

The forthcoming Afcon will take place in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
