Chelle targets new Super Eagles defender and midfielder for AFCON qualifiers

Nigeria senior national team coach Eric Chelle is interested in adding a new defender and midfielder to the team before the start of the qualifiers for the upcoming AFCON, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Nigeria will be on track to qualify for another AFCON in September after finishing third in the last edition in Morocco. Chelle has begun preparations in earnest.

In the same group with Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau and co-host Tanzania, only one team will qualify from the group, unlike other groups because Tanzania automatically qualifies as host.

From what we have exclusively gathered, Chelle has already opened a line of communication with a midfielder who plays in one of the top European leagues and who plays for Nigeria.

He also approached a defender who has dual nationality but has not been capped at any level. Both players are two of a short list of five new players who could possibly join the team.
