Civic group affirms confidence in IGP Disu and urges Nigerians to support ongoing police reforms


A leading ombudsman organisation, Prayer & Support for The Nigerian Armed Forces & Other Security Agencies, has reaffirmed its confidence in the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, expressing optimism about ongoing efforts to strengthen professionalism and accountability within the Nigerian Police Force.

The leader of the group, Ambassador Mary Abayomi Fatile, made this known during a courtesy visit to the force headquarters in Abuja, where she led members in a demonstration of solidarity and constructive engagement with the police leadership.

Speaking after the meeting, Fatile stressed that the organization believes in the IGP’s ability and track record to bring about meaningful reforms that will strengthen public confidence and improve policing standards across the country.

“We are here not only to support, but with confidence that the current leadership of the police force is committed to progress. Nigerians are confident and we share this optimism for a more responsive and people-centric police institution,” he said.

Fatile noted that IGP Disu’s professional history reflects a strong foundation for leadership, citing his impactful tenure as Chairman of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, where he was widely credited with improving operational efficiency and rapid response to crime.

He also referred to his distinguished service in various strategic assignments across the country, where he demonstrated discipline, innovation and commitment to duty.

According to her, these experiences position the IGP to effectively lead reforms that prioritize integrity, education and community engagement.

“We recognize the complexity of policing in today’s environment, but we are confident that with sustained effort and collaboration, the desired transformation will be achieved,” he added.

The group also underlined the importance of a continuous partnership between civil society and security institutions, underlining that constructive dialogue and shared responsibility remain fundamental to national security.

In his response, IGP Disu welcomed the group’s support and reiterated his commitment to strengthening the Nigeria Police Force through ongoing reforms aimed at improving service delivery, professionalism and public confidence.
