Osunmaibio FC dethrones Krusaders to claim the Ekeremor LGA title

Osunmaibio FC have emerged as the new champions of Ekeremor Local Government Area in the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament (Prosperity Cup) after defeating defending champions Krusaders FC 8-7 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regular time.

The thrilling final, played on the Ayamasa community pitch, saw Bada Jude give Osunmaibio FC the lead in the 62nd minute with a cynical finish.

Krusaders FC, who were in their third consecutive LGA final, fought back when Clinton Joseph equalized late to force the match into a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Osunmaibio FC held their nerve in the shootout to secure their maiden Ekeremor LGA title, joining Okoroma United (Nembe) and Movers FC (Ogbia) as this year’s local government champions.

The winners were awarded ₦1,000,000, while the runner-up Krusaders FC received ₦500,000.

Speaking after the match, Hon. Tare Porri, Chairman of the Bayelsa State Assembly Committee on Sports and member representing Ekeremor Constituency One, commended Governor Senator Douye Diri for supporting the tournament, describing it as a vital springboard for youth development and a key driver of the state’s sporting successes.

He also praised the Central Organizing Committee led by Ono Akpe for its innovations, including the partnership with FC Barcelona.

Krusaders FC coach Genesis Suomokumo blamed the defeat on his team’s wastefulness in front of goal, but said the team had already shifted focus to the round of 32, scheduled for later this month.

Osunmaibio FC coach Eshaye Denye praised his players’ determination in what he described as a difficult match.

The LGA finals continue on Wednesday 15 April 2026 as Sagbama LGA takes center stage with Kolobiriowei FC of Bulou-Orua taking on Agoro United of Agoro at Ebedebiri ground by 1pm.
