Coas reaffirms the commitment to lasting peace in Benue’s state
Makurdi (basic reporter) Nigeria chief of the army staff (Coas), the lieutenant general Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed the unshakable commitment of the Nigerian army in restoring peace and stability in the state of Benue and in other parts of the country. He made this known during an operational visit to Benue State Tuesday 3 June 2025.
Upon arrival, the COAs were received at the joint Task Force of the headquarters, Operation Whirl Stroke (JTF Ets), where the commander of the Force, the major General Moses Race, presented a complete briefing on the security situation. The briefing highlighted the key operational results, the challenges in progress and the continuous efforts of the troops in neutralizing criminal elements that interrupt peace in Benue and the neighboring states.
Following the operational commitment, the Coas have approached the Makurdi government chamber, where he made a courtesy visit to the executive governor of the state of Benue, his excellence Rev. P. Hyacinth alia.
In a show of empathy and solidarity, General Olyede has extended the heartfelt condolences to the governor and the people of the Benue on recent unfortunate accidents that have caused the loss of lives and the destruction of the property in some communities. The Coas assured that the governor of the Nigerian army company decides to safeguard lives and properties within the state.
He underlined the critical necessity of a collaboration supported among all the interested parties of security to achieve lasting peace. He also reiterated the military commitment to his constitutional mandate to defend the territorial integrity of the nation and support internal security operations.
In his response, the executive governor of the state of Benue, Hyacinth alia, expressed appreciation for the timely visit of the CoA and praised the Nigerian army for his continuous efforts, in particular the strategic deployment of the troops to identify the flash points. He invited the military to support and intensify his operations until all threats to peace and security are actually neutralized.
The visit of the head of the Army staff to the State of Benue is a clear testimony of the proactive approach of the Nigerian army to the management of safety and its dedication to the protection of life and ownership of all citizens. Further strengthens the determination of the army to support civil authorities in guaranteeing peace and stability throughout the country.
