The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Department of State Services (DSS) have announced plans to improve their relative safety efforts to combat cross -border crimes, in particular the aim of the smugglers and other criminal activities.
This decision followed a meeting on March 6, 2025, between the controller of the command of the Oyo/Osun area, Joseph Adelaja, and the director of the State DSS, Rasheed Adelakun, at the DSS state headquarters in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital.
The announcement was contained in a declaration issued by the NCS and shared on its official management of X Monday.
Adelaja underlined the importance of strengthening the sharing of intelligence and the collaboration between agencies, detecting the increasingly sophisticated tactics used by smuggling networks.
“The smugglers are evolving in their operations and to face them effectively, we must also make our strategies advance.
“The sharing of intelligence and coordinated operations are fundamental for our success,” he said.
He reaffirmed the dedication of the command of the Oyo/Osun area to work closely with the DSS through joint operations, development programs for the skills and exchange of information in real time to effectively deal with security threats.
In his observations, Adelakun praised the proactive approach adopted by customs leadership, committing the agency’s commitment to deepen the collaboration.
“The DSS is committed to working with Nigeria’s customs service to protect our boundaries and safeguard the economy of the nation. Our agencies must be united against cross -border crimes, “said Adelakun.
The two agencies aim to strengthen their partnership through greater sharing of intelligence, coordinated application actions and continuous training of personnel to facilitate rapid responses to emerging security challenges.
