Dolphins basketball team coach Okechukwu Ottah expresses satisfaction with their performance in the women’s league, despite three defeats

The coach of the Dolphins women’s basketball team, Okechukwu Ottah, has been satisfied with their performance so far in the current league, despite suffering three consecutive defeats in the Port Harcourt zone.

Sports247 reports that the defending champions fell again in phase two of the Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League as they lost 73-54 to their Lagos-based rivals, Mountain of Fire Ministries (MFM).

While reflecting on the loss, Ottah highlighted the positives of what he called better defense by his players, even though they trailed 18-13 from the first quarter and MFM extended its lead in the second period.

MFM reached 24-13, then took a 42-26 lead at halftime and up to 58-34 in the fourth quarter, during which the champions put on their best display of the game to win 20-15, but that wasn’t enough as they ultimately lost 73-54.

However, despite the loss, Ottah (aka Kenzy) said he remains confident of better results for his team as they have improved defensively and are starting to rediscover the form that saw them emerge as champions last season.

Ottah noted, “We’re trying to regroup again. We lost the game, but, for me, this game was good because we were able to cut those points and hold them off.”

“We played good defense. The defense was tight and I’m good with the team’s progress so far. Every time we step on the court, we have to keep fighting. That’s what makes you a champion.

“You can never become a champion in one day; you become a champion when you put in the same effort, even more, game after game. I think now we have become a team to compete with.”
